I'm looking to a 2nd subwoofer. But It has to be punchy and SPL? I'm looking to a 2nd subwoofer. But It has to be punchy and SPL? I just recently purchases a used JL W7 12" for $300 with a box. I am going to put the sub in my ported box. I love the lows that the sub hits, BUT I listen to a lot of metal and the sub doesn't punch much. SO what I am looking for is a 2nd subwoofer 12" that will be really punchy. FI Audio - They recommended there "FI Q" & "FI SSD" (dual 2 ohm coils) - Pros less expensive than the JLs, have a higher decibel rating. Con I have to wait for them to finish there new models, but that's ok. Because I am still saving. Price about $284 per sub and there is no info yet on there "SSD" model. DD Audio - 2500 series dual 2 ohm voice coils. $400 a piece so pretty pricey Soundstream - T6 12s Cerwin Vega - The stroker dual 2 ohm coils. $400 a pair so pretty pricey. These seem nice. But are they loud along with their high quality? Phoenix Gold - Ti 12 inch dual 2 ohm. $270 a pair. Pros these are long throws. So the bass should be deep? But will it punch nice? Con. He said my box is slightly too big. Rockford Fosgate - T1D212. $250 a piece. Will these be loud? He said this woofer will work fine. I have contacted about 10-15 car audio names and have given them my box specifications and asked which one of there subwoofers will work best. I want it to be loud. With 2 12s @ 880 watts RMS @ 4 ohms per subwoofer. By the way. My box is 2 cubic feet per subwoofer. Each sub gets 2 cubic feet and a slot port that measures 1.5"wide x 10.5" long by 13.5" deep and the box is tuned to 37 hertz. The current woofers I am replacing are 2 12 inch dual 2 ohm Power Acoustik Mofos. I want something better. They were great subs for my 1st system. My car can handle the load to. I have a 90 amp alternator, a XS power D3400 and a Yellowtop D31A. I run @ 13.7 volts with my music all the way up right now. I only listen to music occasionally. So that is plenty of power. Despite what you might think. I need the subs to work with a 4 ohm load of the amps too. Now because of JLs name and price. It makes me feel like they are the loudest and best. But that may not be true. That is why I need your help. Which subs should I pick? Can you give me a top 3 that would sound their best or close in my box? Don't worry about price. HERE ARE THE CHOICES THAT THE COMPANY REPLIED TO ME AND SAID WOULD WORK. BUT HOW WELL WILL THE WORK? SOME OF THE COMPANIES SAID THE BOX IS A LITTLE OFF. WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM? car insurance. Porsche . Pontiac Sunbird Cooling System InformationThe cooling system is what keeps your Pontiac Sunbird running, by drawing heat off the motor and allowing it to operate at a stable temperature. Problems with the cooling system, such as leaks, a low coolant level and contaminated coolant, can lead to overheating. This can cause serious damage to your engine's internal components. Radiator The Pontiac Sunbird uses a cross flow radiator design with tanks on either side. Hot engine coolant passes through tubes in the radiator attached to cooling fins. Outside air enters the engine compartment through the vehicle's grille and passes over the radiator, drawing heat out of the coolant. After the coolant passes through the radiator, it returns to the engine. Air flow across the radiator is aided by the use of an electric fan which is mounted in the engine side of the radiator and pulls air across it. Thermostat The thermostat is located on the engine block below the thermostat housing and upper radiator hose. When the vehicle is cold the thermostat closes and keeps coolant from circulating through the engine. This allows heat to build up within the engine so it can quickly reach its optimal operating temperature. Once operating temperature is reached the thermostat opens, allowing coolant to circulate and cool the engine. Reserve Tank and Pressure Relief Valve The Pontiac Sunbird employs a closed design cooling system, meaning excess coolant is stored in a reserve tank. Then when pressure in the system falls, coolant is draw from the reserve tank back into the system. A pressurized cap is fitted to the top of the thermostat housing and connected via a rubber tube to the reserve tank. Pressure in the cooling system raises the boiling point of the coolant which, in turn, allows the coolant to cool more efficiently. The relief valve in the pressurized cap determines if pressure in the cooling system is too high. If so, it diverts coolant to the reserve tank. Water Pump The Pontiac Sunbird uses an impeller style water pump to circulate coolant throughout the engine. The water pump is mounted to the front of the block and driven by an accessory belt off the crankshaft. Engine Block Passages or water jackets cast in the engine block allow coolant to circulate around the cylinders and through the heads and intake manifold. Coolant flows via two large radiator hoses between the engine and radiator. This creates a continuous circuit in which coolant flows through the water pump, and is heated while flowing through the engine. Then the coolant travels through the radiator to be cooled, and finally returns to the engine via the water pump. ResourcesJ-Body.org
Porsche . How to Bleed a Cooling SystemThe cooling system of a typical automobile will require periodic flushing to remove contaminants and ensure the longevity of the car. It is recommended that the system be bled thoroughly every 50,000 miles, or the manufacturer's recommended intervals. The average backyard mechanic will spend about an hour bleeding the coolant system. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Coolant flush kit (fittings and adapter for heater hose splicing) Garden hose Fresh coolant Cutting tool Socket driver and bits Drain pan Step by Step : 1 Drain the coolant from the radiator. There is typically a drain plug on the lower corner of the radiator. Removing it will release the vacuum and allow the coolant to drain into the drain pan. 2 Connect the coolant flush kit adapters to the upper heater hose. There are two sizes in the kit, and they splice into the heater hose on the top of the engine. Cut the hose in the center, and attach the T-shaped fitting to each end of the cut hose with a hose clamp. The plastic of this piece can be weak, so do not tighten too much. 3 Tighten the drain plug on the radiator. 4 Attach a garden hose to the adapter using the yellow fitting provided, and turn the water on slowly. Too much pressure will damage the engine, so just a quarter turn or less will give enough pressure to bleed the system. The radiator cap, still unscrewed, will be the primary exit point for the fluid in the coolant system, so align the drain pan accordingly. 5 Allow a few minutes for the water to flush the system completely. The fluid will turn clear when the water reaches the radiator cap. Give a few more minutes to ensure all of the coolant is evacuated. 6 Turn off the water and remove the garden hose from the adapter. The kit comes with a cap for the adapter, making it a permanent fixture on the car for later flushing. 7 Replace the radiator cap, then run the car for five minutes. This will remove the pockets of coolant still trapped in the crevices of the engine. Turn the heater on full, to get out the coolant still in the heater core. 8 Shut off the car, and let it cool. Drain the radiator again, and repeat the process of flushing the system with the garden hose. More contaminants will be visible in the drained water. Repeat the flushing procedure until the water coming out is totally clean. 9 Replace the cap on the adapter, and drain the radiator one last time. Fill the radiator with coolant, not mixed with water, until it is full. Check the level on the reservoir overflow tank, and fill to proper level. Step by Step : 10 Run the car for 10 minutes to mix the coolant with the water inside the engine. Check the overflow tank for several days and fill to the proper level, as there will be pockets of air that will be forced out while the car is driven. Tips & Warnings Do not flush the system if the car is warm, as the cold water rushing into the head could cause damage. Properly dispose of waste coolant. Wear safety protection while working on a vehicle. *CON: Diesels still need regular maintenance to keep them running. You have to change the oil and the air, oil, and fuel filters, and you may need to bleed excess water out of the system. This chapter shows you how to do these things yourself, but if you neglect the maintenance, and the fuel injection system breaks down, you'll probably have to pay a diesel mechanic big bucks to get things unsnaggled. PRO: Diesels are built more ruggedly to withstand the rigors of higher compression. Consequently, they usually go much longer before they require major repairs than conventional vehicles do. (Mercedes-Benz holds the longevity record with several vehicles clocking more than 900,000 miles on their original engines!) CON: Do you really want to hang on to the same vehicle for 900,000 miles? Also, there have been cases where automakers have simply plunked diesel engines into vehicles that were originally designed to be gasoline-powered. Because these vehicles weren't constructed to stand up to the stresses imposed by the high compression that diesel engines require, they suffered failures that contributed to their swift decline in popularity. PRO: Turbocharged diesels have better fuel efficiency and are much more powerful and responsive than traditional diesel vehicles. CON: Turbocharging will probably get cheaper and even more efficient as time goes on, but you can buy a turbocharged, gasoline-powered vehicle and have the advantages of both. PRO: Diesels have become easier to start in cold weather. CON: Although they're better than they used to be, diesel engines are still more difficult to start on cold days than gasoline engines are. PRO: Diesels put out much less carbon monoxide than ordinary vehicles do, which means less air pollution. CON: This is a major misconception. Diesels put out 30 to 90 percent more nitrogen oxides and carbon particles (soot), and recent studies show that diesel emissions can cause cancer. As a result, recent legislation is aimed at getting diesel-powered vehicles off the road completely unless they can find a way to meet increasingly stringent EPA standards. By the time you read this book, the diesel pros and cons may have changed. Government pressure to produce low-emission diesel engines for trucks, buses, and farm and construction equipment by the early 2000s has resulted in increased efforts to develop low-sulfur diesel fuels, specialized catalytic 341

Ultimately, you're going to have to check out what's available and make up your own mind. However, based on the current situation, unless you do a lot of driving in parts of the world where gasoline is scarce and diesel fuel is plentiful, I'd stick to gasoline or consider one of the alternatively powered vehicles described later in this chapter. Porsche . You left a can of crabmeat in the car for 24 hours is it still edible?
Pontiac Vibe. * ku v a diesel vehicle, be sure to choose one that allows you to do most of the maintenance yourself, without requiring a great deal of time, money, or skill. Check the owner's manual and talk to diesel mechanics to be sure that the oil is easy to change, because you're going to have to change it quite often. Also make sure that the oil, air, and fuel filters are easy to reach and change, and that you can bleed and prime the fuel system easily. Before you buy the vehicle, make the dealer show you where all these items are located and what you must do to maintain them. What makes it yo The basic difference between a diesel engine and a gasoline engine is that in a diesel engine, the fuel is not ignited by an outside power source like a spark plug, nor is it mixed with air in a carburetor. Instead, the fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber through a fuel injector nozzle, just when the air in the chamber has been placed under such great pressure that it's hot enough to ignite the fuel spontaneously. (You can find more information about diesel fuel later in this chapter.) Most conventional engines have compression ratios of around 8:1, which means that the volume of each cylinder is eight times larger with the piston at the bottom of the cylinder than with the piston at the top of the cylinder. Diesel engines may employ compression ratios of above 20:1. Because of this fact, and the fact that the compressed air can reach very high temperatures, diesel engines must be built for greater strength and endurance. (See Figure 7-1.) Porsche .
